Turo

Two-sided marketplace creative: attack the rental counter’s ‘or similar’ for guests, run the driveway-paycheck math for hosts, and reframe monthly rentals as the anti-lease.

01 — THE BRIEF
The buyer

Two audiences, one marketplace: the traveler tired of waiting 40 minutes to be handed ‘whatever’s left on the lot,’ and the car owner whose asset naps in the driveway 23 hours a day losing value.

The job

Give guests the exact-car promise against the counter’s ‘or similar,’ show hosts the real earnings math de-risked by protection, and reframe monthly rentals as commitment-free — booking the demand and the supply from the same play.

Three angles

02 — THE STRATEGY
ANGLE 01 · GUEST PAS
The ‘or similar’ clause
Attack the two sneakiest words on every rental confirmation. Pick the actual car — photos, reviews, host — and grab it at the airport or delivered. No counter, no upsell script.
ANGLE 02 · HOST MATH
The driveway paycheck
Reframe the parked car as an underperforming asset. The average US host earns $10,489 a year per car, de-risked by up to $750K in Travelers liability. Listing is free.
ANGLE 03 · OWNERSHIP ALT
The 10-week car
Nobody needs a 36-month lease for a 10-week problem. Monthly rentals as the anti-lease: real monthly price, no down payment, no DMV line, walk away clean.

‘Or similar’ — the two sneakiest words in travel. Book a Wrangler for Miami, land at 11:48 p.m., wait 40 minutes at the counter, and drive off in whatever’s left. Turo deleted those words. Pick the actual car — a Jeep Wrangler at $50/day, or any of 1,600+ makes and models — and see its photos, reviews, and host before you commit. Book 4+ days ahead and 10% comes off automatically.

The average car works about an hour a day. The other 23, it sits there losing value. Turo hosts flipped the math: the average US host earns $10,489 a year per car — $874 a month — booked about 15 days a month. Listing is free, every US trip carries up to $750,000 in Travelers liability, and 24/7 support is behind it. Most hosts start with the car they already own. Three cars average $32,547 a year.

Nobody needs a 36-month lease for a 10-week problem. New city until October. Internship through September. Car’s in the shop till who-knows-when. Turo rents by the month — a VW Jetta runs about $601/month in Orlando — with no down payment, no DMV line, no insurance shopping, and no early-termination fee. Weekly and monthly discounts are built in. When your in-between season ends, hand back the keys and walk away clean.

Note: a booking-reminder flow that reduces anxiety, not urgency — the ‘no counter’ contrast is the whole reason they chose Turo, restated at the moment of truth.
05 — WHY IT CONVERTS
01
Own the enemy’s two words. ‘Never drive or similar again’ turns the rental counter’s fine print into Turo’s whole value prop — the exact car, not whatever’s left.
02
Math recruits the supply side. $10,489 a year on an asset that used to nap in the driveway makes hosting a business decision, and $750K protection removes the fear.
03
Reframe the category, not the price. Positioning monthly rentals as the anti-lease opens a whole in-between-season audience that ownership ads never speak to.
04
The flow protects the promise. A calm T-48h checklist restates ‘zero counters’ at the moment of truth, so the experience delivers what the ad sold.
